With New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks over for another season, here are the key trends to steal from the runways and start rocking now...

Party Coats...

If you were practically allergic to wearing a coat as a teenager on nights out, then your parents will be chuffed to know that evening coats are big for autumn winter 2018. From metallic brocade at Rochas to feather trimmed versions at Chanel and quilted satins at Nina Ricci, dressing for the elements just got a whole lot chicer. For a cheap and instant update, pin embellished brooches to a plain coat.

Headgear...

When Maria Grazia Chiuri took the reigns at Dior four season ago, she reintroduced the beret as a must-have accessory. Numerous high street rip-offs later, we're feeling beret boredom, so luckily the designer has a new update. Say hello to the Dior bakerboy. Every single runway look came topped with the black slightly oversized bakerboy cap, while off the runway Cara D teamed hers with a top-to-toe tailored look from the brand. Meanwhile, Eudon Choi teamed up with Rihanna's go-to milliner Noel Stewart to create a series of glossy sou’wester hats inspired by a trip Choi took to Cornwall.

"We looked at the coastline and the fishing trade. It's nice to do something that is practical but also protective. You feel safe and warm." Taking the protective theme to a whole new level was Raf Simons who showed a series of hand-knitted balaclavas. Gucci went one step further with pompoms and chunky crystal embellishments while Preen by Thornton and Bregrazzi did deep-sea diver scuba-esque versions.

The bag grip...

At Chanel and Givenchy models folded over quilted totes, then gripped them under their arms. While, at Louis Vuitton, patent croc totes were turned sideways and hugged close to the body. If you prefer to be hands-free Stella McCartney showed two bags at time while at Celine one bag worn on the shoulder was accessorised with multiple smaller bags and clutches, like the bag version of a charm bracelet.

Gloves...

You’re set to make some major savings on your monthly Shellac habit with a myriad of glove options all over the autumn winter 2018 runways. Marc Jacobs, Maison Margiela and Gareth Pugh showed long leather black gloves. At Chanel neon hued gloves were styled with embellished charm bracelets dangling over them. While, Balenciaga took the theme one step further fusing sleeves with gloves in the form of velour tops in hot pinks and lime greens. Cosy? Yes. Practically? Zero.

Triple coating...

Friends character Joey Tribbiani wearing all of Chandler's clothes at once, became fashion month's most memorable meme  as a result of Balenciaga showing triple coated looks. Roksanda fused puffers with a fuzzy overlay whilse at Lemaire and Givenchy there were coats layered over long length suit jackets. Marni mixed up materials like PVC and wool, whilst Sacai spliced everything from padded-nylon to denim and even faux fur.

The eye-bag hider....

Say bye-bye to your bug-eyed shades and cue cat-eye shapes instead. Already, huge amongst the street style set, a series of designers proved they're set to be a continued hit next season too. At Calvin Klein they came exaggerated in silver, Miu Miu did embellished versions whilst Alexander Wang showed mirrored styles, which put everyone in the Matrix mood.

Leather...

From bottle green coats at Givenchy to red trenches at Hermes, leather is back and bolder than ever. Tod's made it casual with buttery dresses loosely belted, Loewe kept it sophisticated in the form of chic buttoned up dresses worn over trousers while Miu Miu sexed it up with crimson shades and short hemlines. If you love your biker jacket, just fling over tailoring like at Alexander McQueen for an instant update.
