10 Trends You’ll Definitely Be Wearing This Autumn

Published on InStyle.co.uk, 18th October 2017

We may technically still be in the height of summer but that hasn't put a stop to us plotting our autumn winter 2017 wardrobes. With stores set to release most of their new season drops at the end of August, now is the time to start thinking about what you want to be rocking come colder climes. From the boots to trot to the knits that definitely aren't to be knocked, here are the ten key trends to buy into...

Red alert...

Forget everyone's obsession with millennial pink, for autumn winter 2017, things are set to get heated with red hot, errr, red being the colour of the season. Givenchy even created an entire collection dedicated to the hue. Meanwhile, there were slinky dresses at Versace, slick coats at Giorgio Armani and let's not forget those slick over-the-knee boots at Fendi that everyone was 'Gramming.

Let your boots do the talking...
Your feet are set to be the centre of attention with sparkle and shine seen stomping all over the runways. If last season was all about the white boot then this season is all about the twinkle. From space age vibes at Chanel to Saint Laurent's sexed-up diamanté pair and Marco Vincenzo's glitter-encrusted versions, it's go bling or go home.

Cor corduroy...

With designers giving a nod to 70s vibes, corduroy is making a mega comeback this season. We loved the chunky suits at Prada and Lemaire. While Marc Jacobs showed corduroy jackets with shearling collars for an even cosier take.

Fancy footwork...
If you fangirled hard over last year's fishnet trend then you're going to love this season's fancy upgrade. Whether in white and a bit bridal-esque like at Nina Ricci or in fluffy mint and plum coloured mohair at Mulberry, statement hosiery is where it's at. We're just patiently counting down the days until the high street unveils their version of this affordable styling trick.

Working girl...
Throwing it back to the 90s, designers showed a myriad of power suits. Featuring double breasted cuts and shoulder pads, but this time they came with a 2017 modern twist in the form of longer lengths and a more fluid silhouette. Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney and Ellery all put their spin on the trend ensuring that we'll be rocking a blazer both in and out of the office come fall.

Get waisted...
Prepare to get strapped in with belts making an appearance at nearly every show. Whether wide at Isabel Marant or skinny at Miu Miu and cinching everything from coats to knits, this season's erogenous zone is definitely focused on the waist.

Return of the dress...
Whether craft-inspired like at Valentino, romantic like at Alexander McQueen, or even vintage floral prints at Balenciaga, dresses are back with a bang. In silks, velvets and even satin, they blur the line between day and night and with some clever footwear swaps are destined for the easiest desk to cocktail bar dressing.

Supersize me...
Hoarders, rejoice, bags are big for next season. Céline played with giant geometric shapes, Chanel went super-soft with models gripping slouchy styles underarm while at Proenza Schouler arm candy was big as well as super shiny.

Nylon...
Outerwear gets even more practical next season with nylon coats seen at Stella McCartney, Céline and Christian Dior. Full length and even better looking when a bit creased, this is one we'll be bunging in our bags to face the erratic winter elements.

Cool knits...
From roll necks at Balenciaga, Alpine-esque prints at Loewe, deconstructed cuts at Louis Vuitton and even cardigans at Miu Miu and Prada, knitwear has plenty of fashion mileage for autumn winter 2017. We'll be pairing our chunky knits with slouchy trousers as seen at Joseph and midi skirts as spotted at Sacai.
