Saint Laurent Gets Lit For Spring Summer 2018 | InStyle.co.uk

The Eiffel tower flashes every hour on the hour except it seems when Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent takes control. Held in the Jardins du Trocadéro, for his spring summer 2018 show, Vaccarello chose the Parisian landmark as his backdrop but it was only as Lenny Kravitz took his seat at 8.03pm and the tower finally sparkled just as the pulsating beat of the show soundtrack kicked in, that you realised just how much power Saint Laurent have when it comes to creating 'a fashion moment.' Add to the mix a dry ice machine, a runway so long that at times you worried you were going to witness one of those viral model falling moments and cheering from the crowds which had gathered opposite the show venue and you felt more like you were at a secret party than an on-schedule show.

Paying homage to Pierre Bergé, the business and life partner of Yves Saint Laurent, who died earlier this month aged 86, Vaccarello  played with the codes of the house and referenced the cities and cultures that inspired Saint Laurent. There were peasant blouses from trips to Morocco, oversized shoulders transformed in giant pointy lapels, 'Le Smoking' tux jackets, this time worn over bikini style halter neck tops fastened with a butterfly clasp and jewel coloured puffball silhouettes, in Vaccarello's vision they came as leather tops or dresses.
As for hemlines, well they were barely there, with legs, legs and more legs striding down the runway. Describing the Saint Laurent woman as: 'A dark angel with a sensual allure [who] drapes herself in black-sequinned dresses, shining like the asphalt after the rain,' Vaccarello's collection isn't one for nipping to the shops in. But just like his slouchy crystal encrusted boots from last season which sparkled on many the show goer on last night's front row, Vaccarello proved that his spring summer 2018 collection is guaranteed to garner those likes on Instagram. Coincidentally the collection features a huge amount of feathers, with boots smothered in them or tiny spindly heels wafting with them, which are sure to be hits with the peacocking crowd.

For those who's lifestyle doesn't feature a driver, there were giant sparkly earrings, a velvet bomber jacket featuring tiny Eiffel tower sparkly motifs and tiny cigarette box shaped bags worn cross-body that are slightly more wearable. But as Vaccarello's front row goers including Courtney Love and daughter Francis Bean Cobain rushed backstage to congratulate him you thought when it comes to Saint Laurent does wearability really matter? These are clothes to shimmy in, to flirt in and to wake up thinking 'Wow what a night,' in. Shortly, after the show Vaccarello's Instagrammed photos of models including Anya Rubik celebrating with champagne on the empty set still wearing those leather puffball dresses in front of the twinkly Eiffel Tower. Saint Laurent for spring summer 2018? Oh it's definitely lit.
